New York Yankees
Like us, our readers ranked the New York Yankees as their most hated team. And it wasn't even close. Whether it's the Bronx Bombers' 27 World Series championships or the team's perceived ability to buy whichever star free agent it wants, the largest percentage by far of our readers who submitted a list included the Yankees. That puts them in the same company as the websites below and Ben Affleck, who famously told the Sporting News that he'd rather say, "I worship you, Satan" than "My favorite baseball team is the New York Yankees."

Duke Basketball
As much as our readers hate the Yankees, Duke basketball isn't far behind. One of two college basketball teams in this Top 13 - the Blue Devils' ACC rival North Carolina clocks in at number 13 - Duke undoubtedly is successful; indeed, it is once again a top seed in the NCAA Tournament. But hatred for Duke is based on more than ACC and national championships. It's attributable to the media's love affair with the team, the perception that referees favor Duke, and, perhaps most of all, the Cameron Crazies.

Boston Red Sox
While we ranked the Red Sox as our ninth most hated team, our readers clearly dislike the BoSox a whole lot more. Though the Red Sox struggled mightily for over eight decades until finally winning the World Series in 2004, at this point most fans outside of Boston and New York barely distinguish the Red Sox from the free-spending Yankees. By the way, what's the difference between the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Strangler? One chokes only in October. More dumb Red Sox jokes at the link below.

Dallas Cowboys
Though they moved the Cowboys down a spot on the list, our readers agreed with us that "America's Team" is actually the most hated in the NFL. Football fans, particularly of other NFC East teams, can't stand Jerry Jones or the collection of troublemakers he has chosen to employ, including Michael Irvin, Pacman Jones, and Terrell Owens. Plus, the Cowboys are the league's most valuable team and just opened a sparkling new billion dollar stadium. Add it all up and there's lots to dislike.

Notre Dame Football
Our readers also agreed with us that Notre Dame fields the most detestable football team in the NCAA. Why? Well, it's certainly not based on anything the Fighting Irish have done on the field recently. More likely, the hate is based on a combination of the perceived air of superiority caused by the school's unwillingness to join a conference and its rich contract with NBC to broadcast all Irish home games, which no other team has. Not sure how much people hate Notre Dame? Peruse the parodic website below.

Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles are the highest ranked team on our readers' Top 13 that we didn't include at all on our list. But the reasons for hating this team are legion: In 1989, Eagles coach Buddy Ryan was accused of putting a bounty on the Cowboys' kicker; and a decade later, Eagles fans showed their class by cheering as Cowboys' wide receiver Michael Irvin was carted off the field with a potentially devastating neck injury. Most recently, the Eagles brought in Michael Vick last season after the quarterback was released from prison for his role in a brutal dog fighting ring.

USC Football
Along with the Red Sox, USC is one of two teams on our list that our readers moved up multiple spots. While the disdain for the Trojans is attributable largely to the program's eleven national championships, college football fans also dislike USC because of the constant media attention that playing in Los Angeles (which does not have an NFL team) brings, as well as the fact that many of the best Trojan players over the years (like Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart) seem to crave the spotlight individually. Finally, the team has been dogged by repeated allegations of recruiting violations and play in a conference that hasn't exactly been among the nation's best in recent years.

New England Patriots
Though our readers moved the Patriots down a few spots, there's no question they agree with our dislike of Bill Belichick's squad. So why do you hate the Patriots? While we can start with the three Super Bowl wins in the early 2000s, the biggest reason for the hate is Belichick himself. New England's ornery head coach has long been accused of cheating, as the second link below explains, and he certainly does little or nothing to engender good sportsmanship among his players. Lest you think our readers are alone, as the Facebook link below demonstrates, more than 75,000 people agree.

Los Angeles Lakers
While we ranked the Lakers as the fourth most hated team, our readers moved them down the list significantly. Still, it's clear that you guys don't like the yellow and purple, either. Whether it's based on dislike for current star Kobe Bryant or past Laker legends such as Wilt Chamberlain or Magic Johnson, no other team in the NBA elicits the guttural reactions that the Lakers do. The fact that the Lakers play five all-stars on a nightly basis and that they acquired one of them - Pau Gasol - in nothing less than a sanctioned heist doesn't help the Lakers win fans outside of Los Angeles.

Florida Football
The third college football team on our readers' Top 13, we didn't have the Gators on our list. Considering the polarizing nature of Florida's star quarterback Tim Tebow, it's no surprise the Gators received so many votes. Though his accomplishments on the field are undeniable, many fans find Tebow's outspoken nature and status as a media darling insufferable. And while Florida has had great success over the past 15 years (three national championships), opposing fans also loathe former coach Steve Spurrier, as well as the terribly annoying Gator Chomp.

Green Bay Packers
The Packers are the second NFL team our readers selected that didn’t appear on our list. Dislike of the small-market Pack is based in part on the team's longtime rivalry with the Bears. For Chicago fans, hating Green Bay is a way of life. In addition, most people still think of Brett Favre when they think of the Packers, and Favre evokes strong emotions. His annual retirement watch has become one of the most annoying stories in sports, and many fans think that while he was in Green Bay, Favre received a free pass from the NFL for his substance abuse problems.

New York Knicks
Perhaps it's the fact that they represent New York or that many Knicks fans seem to think they are entitled to have LeBron James call Madison Square Garden home next season. Either way, piling onto the Knicks at this point just seems unfair to us. Since the retirement of Patrick Ewing, the Knicks have been downright awful and they haven't had a winning record since the 2000-01 season. And though we looked, we couldn't find a single website devoted to hating them.

North Carolina Basketball
Another team added by our readers, the Tar Heels evoke strong dislike from college basketball fans who have never resided in Chapel Hill. Like their brethren in the ACC, Duke, who appear near the top of this list, Carolina has a history of success that unquestionably breeds jealousy. But Tar Heel haters also find the team's general attitude to be contemptible. Just last month, Coach Roy Williams was criticized for his appalling statement comparing his squad's underachieving season to the catastrophic earthquake in Haiti. Check out the site below for more reasons people hate North Carolina.
